State and national statistics on sexual violence. ​

New Hampshire

According to the NH surveys of violence against Women and Men: 
  • 22.7% of women have been the victim of a sexual assault, with 19.5% having been the victim of sexual assault with penetration. These figures represent 112,909 New Hampshire women who have ever experienced sexual assault. 
  • 4.9% of men have been sexually assaulted, including 3.7% who reported a sexual assault that included penetration. These figures represent 24,200 New Hampshire men.

Nationwide 

According to the CDC:
  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 26 men have experience attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. 
  • Over half of women and almost one in three men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes.
  • More than 4 in 5 female rape survivors reported they were first raped before the age of 25 and almost half were first raped as a minor (under age 18).
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
